Conservation Authority Acquires Another Property for the MSHCP

The Western Riverside County Regional Conservation Authority (RCA) highlights its latest acquisition for the Western Riverside County MSHCP. This acquisition consists of a total of approximately 1,145.63 acres in the North area of the County within the Badlands Area between the Cities of San Jacinto and Beaumont.

Beaumont/San Jacinto "The Badlands", CA;
This acquisition is located north of Gilman Springs Road, West of Lambs Canyon Road and South of Highway 60. The property was also known as the Wolfskill-Driscoll Properties.

This acquisition is located within Rough Step Unit 2, in the Badlands area of the County General Plan and is in the Badlands Habitat Management Unit for the MSHCP. This acquisition continues the RCA's efforts in acquiring properties and conserve lands in the Badlands Area to create the Proposed Core 3. This acquisition helps link the rest of the Badlands with both the Lake Perris/Mystic Lake core to the south west of the site and the Potreo properties to the east of the site

The vegetation on the property consists of Chaparral, Coastal Sage Scrub, Grasslands, Riparian Scrub, Woodland Forest, Riversidean Alluvial Fan Scrub and Woodland Forest. 90% of the vegetation types on this property directly contribute to the critial rough step categories in Rough Step 2. The Wildlife that has been observed on the site is typical of the vegetation found in this area. Species that have been observed in this area include:

Burrowing Owl, Los Angeles Pocket Mouse and San Bernardino Kangaroo Rat

The property consists of approximately 1,145.63 acres and continues the efforts of the RCA to develop and
maintain a conservation reserve system within Western Riverside County.
