Conservation Authority Acquires Another Property for the MSHCP
The Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) and the Western Riverside County Regional
Conservation Authority (RCA) combined funds for the latest acquisition of the Western Riverside County MSHCP.
This acquisition consists of a total of approximately 1,156.04 acres in the Southeast area of the County
within the Aguanga - Sage Area.
Aguanga/Sage, CA;
This acquisition is located north of State Highway 371, east of Wilson Valley Road and West of the Lake
Riverside Estates Area. The property was acquired from Jalem Productions, the former owner the well known actor; Jack Lemon.
This acquisition is located within Rough Step Unit 4, in the REMAP area of the County General Plan and is in
the Sage Management Unit for the MSHCP. This acquisition continues the RCA's efforts in acquiring properties to
establish a linkage between the San Bernardino National Forest to the North with the Agua Tibia Wilderness Area
and Cleveland National Forest to the South. This key acquisition represents a significant and vital component to
establish this linkage between the National Forests.
The participation of RCTC in this acquisition demonstrates RCTC's continued commitment to develop a unique living
environment in Riverside County and provide Traffic Relief for Riverside County residents by acquiring
conservation lands to reduce the impact of new and improved Transportion Projects and speed their construction
in the Western County Area.
The vegetation on the property consists of Chaparral, Coastal Sage Scrub, Desert Scrubs and Grasslands, and the
Wildlife that has been observed on the site is typical of the vegetation found in this area. Species that have been
observed in this area include:
Black-tailed Jackrabbit, Bobcat, Brush Rabbit, Coast Horned Lizard, Cooper's Hawk, Coyote, Granite Night
Lizard, Granite Spiny Lizard, Loggerhead Shrike, Mountain Lion, Red Diamond Rattlesnake, San Diego Pocket
Mouse and the Turkey Vulture.
This property will also provide part of an important linkage for other species that travel between the San
Bernardino National Forest and the Cleveland National Forest.

The property consists of approximately 1,156.04 acres and continues the efforts of the RCA to develop and
maintain a conservation reserve system within Western Riverside County.
