Greewald Acquisition - Canyon Lake and Lake Elsinore Area
Location: North side of Greenwald Avenue, approximately
two miles south of Highway 74, in the City of Lake Elsinore and just west of the City of Canyon
Lake.

Size: 13.81 acres
Plant Communities:
Coastal Sage Scrub and Grasslands.
Species for Conservation:
Species for conservation in this area plan subunit include: Coastal California gnatcatcher,
Quino checkerspot butterfly, Bells sage sparrow, grasshopper sparrow, loggerhead shrike,
yellow warbler, Coopers hawk, California horned lark, Stephens kangaroo rat, burrowing
owl and bobcat.
Importance:
The Greenwald property consists of approximately 13.81 acres and is located on the north side
of Greenwald Avenue, approximately 2 miles south of Highway 74, in the City of Lake Elsinore.
This property was acquired by the Trust for Public Land with a combination of state and federal
grant funding and then donated to the RCA on October 13, 2011 for long term management purposes.
The property is located in the northeasterly portion of Cell 4268 within the Western Riverside
County Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan (Western Riverside County MSHCP). Conserved
lands in the vicinity of the property include land owned by the Bureau of Land Management, to
the northeast and south of the subject property.
The Greenwald property contains important biological resources, including vital coastal sage
scrub habitat and grassland habitat.
Preservation of this plant community and animal species meets the objectives identified
for Federal Grant Number E-20-HL-3.
Wildlife and Habitat Value:
In addition, the subject property is located in a critical conservation area within the
Western Riverside County MSHCP, identified as Linkage 7. This linkage connects the property
to other conserved lands further north and south.
